About Curio
Curio is a psychedelics care delivery & infrastructure startup focused on remote safety monitoring and clinical outcomes for virtual Psychedelic-Assisted Coaching and Therapy (PACT). Our vision is to create the world's most cost-effective and preventive healthcare system catalyzed by psychedelic-assisted coaching and therapy (PACT).

Description
At Curio, we're looking for people who are passionate about what we're doing: radically transforming mental healthcare by helping people succeed at overcoming despair and the inability to change in order to live more fulfilled lives. To achieve this, we're building tools and experiences in the entirely novel space of psychedelic-assisted therapy and coaching.

As our Founding Software Engineer, you'll be able to use your technical experience and your creativity to help us on this mission while having a significant equity stake.

You will:
  • Work closely with the CTO to define the technical strategy and design for our suite of products from the ground up, while hiring and mentoring a world-class engineering team as we grow.
  • Design and implement maintainable backend services, including data processing pipelines, APIs, complex video-streaming features, etc.
  • Build integrations between us and our partners (physicians, coaches, medical systems, etc).
  • Create delightful and performant UIs to help our members go through transforming experiences, integrate the learnings, and make long-lasting behavior change.
This list is not exhaustive: you will have a lot of autonomy over your work and you’ll need to wear many hats!

Our web stack is TypeScript, React (Next.js and Remix), React Native, and Node for the member and operations experiences. Python for our healthcare automation systems.

We love junior developers, but this role is for someone more senior. We will be opening a wider variety of roles in the future for people with less experience.
Why you might be excited about us
  1. We're working to solve a massive global problem: mental health conditions like depression, anxiety, PTSD, and OCD affect a quarter of the US population alone in any given year. If you're into health/wellness, mindfulness, and behavior change, you'll love helping build our product!
  2. We're very small, so you'll be able to contribute efficiently and without bureaucracy. You'll quickly have responsibility over big areas of our product and a significant equity stake in the company.
  3. We don't have a ton of meetings. If we can effectively solve a problem asynchronously, we do. When we do meet synchronously, you'll always have the opportunity to contribute.
  4. Our team has a wide range of experiences (Stanford physician, serial healthcare operator, LinkedIn engineering lead, head researcher at Calm, etc) and is excited to learn from you, too.
  5. We're well funded: we recently closed our initial seed round.
  6. You'll be able to work remotely and set your own schedule. We don't micro-manage and will help you do great work.
  7. We care a lot about your satisfaction and job happiness and will help you grow your role to shape a career you're excited about.
  8. We work hard and also highly value balanced work/life. We care about family and your own personal development and don't expect you to be always engaged with work.
Why you might not be excited about us
  1. We're very small and need your help to build the product and the company's culture. If you like more established companies, it's not (yet) the right time.
  2. Since we're an early-stage startup, projects and priorities may shift. It’s a great opportunity to learn how to manage ambiguity and change and to prioritize effectively.
  3. Since you'll have a lot of responsibility and creativity over projects, they may not be defined perfectly initially. You'll be expected to bring your own experience and perspective to help us do the right things, and speak up if you think we should do things differently.
Requirements
We think you’ll thrive as our Founding Software Engineer if you:
  1. Have 5+ years of relevant Software Engineering experience.
  2. Have experience with TypeScript or JavaScript, building both backend and frontend apps.
*Frontend/mobile experience with React / React Native is a big plus.
*Some data science, analytics, and/or machine learning knowledge is a great bonus - you’ll help define and grow these functions over time.
  3. Love thinking broadly about problems and how to solve them efficiently, weighing the tradeoffs.
  4. Worked remotely before, or know that you'd work well with a remote team.
  5. Are excited to try things out to validate new features and move on if they no longer solve a problem.
  6. Can thrive when managing ambiguity and open-ended problems.
  7. Are excited about a front-row seat in a fast-growing, early-stage company. Things will change a lot!
  8. Are a strong communicator and are happy writing thorough documentation so that others can ramp up easily.
